Bulleted text slides are part of most PowerPoint presentations, even though some people abhor using bulletedcontent altogether. On the other hand, many others just cannot do without slides that do not contain bulletedlists. And if you are part of either of these two opposing camps, you will love this cool feature in PowerPointthat takes a middle road approach by using SmartArt. You can enhance the look of some bulleted slides byconverting them to a SmartArt graphic inPowerPoint 2016:
- Open a slide with some bulleted text in PowerPoint. Select the text within the bulleted list (only text, not the entireplaceholder), or just click upon some text within the list, as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Bulleted text slide - With the bulleted text selected, or with the cursor placed upon the text, carefully right-click to summon thecontextual menu shown in Figure 2 and choose the Convert to SmartArt option, (highlightedin red). This brings up the SmartArt sub-gallery (see Figure 2again).

Click to choose the SmartArt graphic you want to apply. Alternatively, to get more SmartArt graphics, click theMore Smart Art Graphics option located at the bottom of the SmartArt sub-gallery(highlighted in blue within Figure 2, above).
- This summons the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box that you can see in Figure 3.

At some point, you may surrender the notion of needing a table in Word 2016 and desire the text to be freed from the table’s confines. To perform such a jailbreak, you convert the table back into plain text or even tab-formatted text. Obey these steps:
Click inside the table you want to convert.
Don’t select anything — just click the mouse.
Click the Table Tools Layout tab.
From the Table group, choose Select→Select Table.
From the Data group, choose Convert to Text.
The Convert to Text dialog box appears. It guesses how you want the table converted, such as using tabs or paragraphs.
Click OK.
Bye-bye, table. Hello, ugly text.
Some post-table-destruction cleanup might be necessary, but generally the conversion goes well. The only issue you may have is when a cell contains multiple paragraphs of text. In that case, undo the operation (press Ctrl+Z) and choose Paragraph Marks from the Convert to Text dialog box (before Step 5).
